Serving Kearny Mesa Service Members, Contractors and IT Professionals

Kearny Mesa is not a service area for us. It is the address. DoD Training Center San Diego runs its classroom, lab and Pearson VUE test center out of 9089 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, Ste 110, a few minutes off SR-163 and I-15. Kearny Mesa cyber security training here is instructor-led, in person, and mapped to the DoD 8140 work roles your billet or your contract actually requires.

The classroom sits between Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport and the Convoy District, which puts it inside a 20-minute drive of MCAS Miramar, Naval Base Point Loma and Naval Base San Diego. Students walk in Monday morning, finish Friday afternoon, and test in the same suite.

Certification Courses Offered in Kearny Mesa

The San Diego lineup covers the certifications that appear most often on 8140 qualification matrices and on cleared job postings across the county:

Not sure which certification your work role calls for? The role-by-role breakdown in our guide to certifications that meet DoD 8140 maps each qualification to the certs that satisfy it.

Kearny Mesa’s Defense and Technology Corridor

Kearny Mesa covers zip codes 92123 and 92111 and functions as San Diego’s light-industrial and technology spine — engineering firms, aerospace suppliers, IT integrators and the auto and restaurant density of the Convoy District all packed into a few square miles. It is one of the few parts of the county where a defense subcontractor, a county IT department and a Navy family can all be within a five-minute drive of the same intersection.

That geography is why the classroom is here. Murphy Canyon and Tierrasanta, home to one of the largest military housing communities in the country, sit directly east across I-15. Serra Mesa and Clairemont border it to the south and west. MCAS Miramar is roughly seven miles north up I-15, and the Naval Medical Center and the downtown commands are a straight run down SR-163.

Practical effect: a sailor stationed at 32nd Street, a Marine at Miramar and a cleared engineer in Sorrento Valley can all reach the same Monday-morning class without an overnight stay or a per-diem request.

Same-Week Pearson VUE Testing Without Leaving the Building

Most bootcamp providers teach you for five days and then hand you a voucher and a list of test centers. That gap is where certifications die — the class ends, the unit gets busy, the material fades, and the exam sits unscheduled for three months.

Our Pearson VUE authorized testing center is in the same suite as the classroom. Proctor-monitored testing, secure lockers, and a separate accommodation room mean you can finish instruction Friday and sit the exam while the material is still sharp. For Kearny Mesa students, that is a walk down the hall instead of a drive across the county.

The test center is open to anyone testing on CompTIA, Cisco, ISACA, (ISC)² and EC-Council exams — you do not have to take the class here to test here.

Why Kearny Mesa Students Train With DoD Training Center San Diego

Three things separate this classroom from a national brand streaming a course into your living room.

A named instructor with the background to back it. Raymond Hughes, ITC, USN (retired), co-founded the San Diego office in 2019 and teaches in this room. You are learning from someone who held the ratings and the clearances the material is written for, not from a contractor reading a vendor slide deck.

A CAGE code, not just an invoice. DoD Training Center holds CAGE code 8KUJ4, which means a training officer or contracting shop can put seats on a purchase order without inventing a workaround. Commands buy in blocks; we are set up to be bought from.

Funding that fits military reality. Credentialing Assistance and Navy and Marine Corps COOL, MyCAA for military spouses, command training funds, and employer reimbursement are the routes our students actually use. If you are unsure which one applies to you, the certification training FAQ covers the eligibility questions we get most often.

What a Week Here Actually Looks Like

Class runs Monday through Friday, 08:00 to 16:00. Day one is objective mapping and diagnostics — the instructor finds out where the room is weak before covering ground you already own. Days two through four are lecture, hands-on lab work, and exam-style question drills against the live objectives. Day five is review, practice testing, and a straight answer on whether you are ready to sit.

You leave with the courseware, and if you are ready, an exam seat down the hall. If life gets in the way and you need a different week, the San Diego class schedule lists upcoming dates. Groups of four or more from the same command or company can have a class scheduled around a duty rotation instead of the other way around.

Can I test at your Kearny Mesa center without taking a class there?

Yes. The Pearson VUE testing center is open to anyone with a scheduled CompTIA, Cisco, ISACA, (ISC)2 or EC-Council exam, whether you trained with us, studied on your own, or took a course somewhere else.

Does DoD Training Center San Diego accept Tuition Assistance or the GI Bill?

No. Our San Diego students typically fund training through Credentialing Assistance and the Navy or Marine Corps COOL programs, MyCAA if they are a military spouse, command training budgets, or employer reimbursement. We will tell you which route fits your situation before you commit.
